Sandra’s Photoshoot – Women’s Expressions 2015 Calendar

Behind the Scene

Sandra’s photo shoot followed Narges’ session. Since no photographer was available, I decided to try taking the pictures myself. Before Yves and Stuart left, I asked them to adjust the camera settings to use the colourful background and natural light.

Sandra arrived with a big smile. Her hair was professionally done, and she was wearing a black dress. This enabled her to stand out from the canvas, a 4 X 8-foot abstract painting by local artist M. Morel. In the painting, there was an envelope—the perfect object to represent the model’s career as a Grade Three teacher. This was definitely no coincidence; the Universe set it up perfectly.

M. Morel

M. Morel is a 72-year-old artist who never stops creating. All of his paintings are gorgeous. He explained that an artist develops a style, but he has developed many styles. He has had different phases for expressing his art. At one time, he was more into checkers in black and white, while the rest of the painting was in vivid colour. His paintings are all done in oil and hang at various locations throughout the city.

The theme of the photo shoot was to incorporate the model into the painting. She would become part of the art. This was possible with the help of Photoshop. Sandra preferred that she be recognized as real instead of being retouched and looking like she was painted onto the canvas.

For me, it was my very first official photo session. Sandra’s photo shoot was her very first, and she didn’t know much about posing. She asked many questions about where to position her hands, where to look, whether she should be standing or sitting, sideways or front, etc. We all laughed when Sandra curled her toes at one point. It was very ‘cute’ and innocent.

Finally, we completed the photo session, and everyone was happy. Thanks to Stuart and Yves, I was successful as a photographer. Sandra performed like a pro, and there was no doubt that she would be a great November woman.
